TMA Test Scores
Thurgood Marshall Academy collects a variety of student data on both state and national tests, which inform planning for the curriculum, remediation, and program development. Click each graph to see a larger size and explanation.
The DC CAS is the state standardized test given to all tenth-graders in DC public schools. Thurgood Marshall Academy administers the examination in reading and math and tests 100% of its sophomores.
Thurgood Marshall Academy’s 2011 DC CAS scores compared to all DC public schools (which includes magnet schools) and all DC open-enrollment public schools demonstrate that the school’s students score over thirty percentage points higher than the average of all public high schools in DC.

Thurgood Marshall Academy’s mean verbal and math SAT scores combined, compared to the mean combined scores of all African-American test-takers in the District. Since 2009, Thurgood Marshall Academy students, 99% of whom are African-American, have outperformed their peers on the SAT.
Since its inception in 2005–06, Thurgood Marshall Academy’s Advanced Placement (AP) program has shown tremendous gains. In 2008–09, Thurgood Marshall Academy’s cumulative passing rate surpassed those of all African-American test-takers and all public schools in DC (including magnet schools and charters). In 2009–10 Thurgood Marshall Academy’s passing rate exceeded that of all District of Columbia Public Schools (including DCPS and Charters).
Thurgood Marshall Academy’s students passed Advanced Placement exams at rates nearly double that of their peers in all District of Columbia public schools (DCPS and charter) in 2010 on the four exams administered at the school. The school tests 100% of students who enroll in AP classes. A passing score is defined as a test that receives a score of three or higher.

College and Alumni Program Report
Thurgood Marshall Academy’s college counseling and alumni programming ensure the school’s mission is fulfilled: that all students succeed in college. With intensive one-on-one college advising and a rigorous college-prep curriculum, 100% of all TMA students have been accepted to college since 2005. Through the alumni program, TMA graduates have received individual support from the alumni program since 2006, ensuring that approximately 75% graduates remain in college.
