Initiating an on-going effort to inspire students
to enter rewarding careers in justice, United States
Supreme Court Justice Stephen G. Breyer was the
guest of honor at a dialogue with Thurgood Marshall
Academy students on Thursday, February 16, 2006.
The topics discussed included Justice Breyer's current
role on the nation's highest court, the path that
led him to his position, and a look at a variety
of law-related professional opportunities for students.
Justice Breyer engaged Thurgood Marshall Academy
students in a face-to-face dialogue moderated by
Fred Graham, Court TV's Senior Anchor with 45 years'
experience covering law and the Supreme Court. The
event was chronicled by Court TV and will air in
the coming months as part of the network's education
programming.
The event was held in conjunction with Court TV's
education initiative, Careers in Justice,
which aims to inspire teens to pursue careers in
the fields of justice and law enforcement by illustrating
the watershed social and judicial issues that have
transformed society.
Court TV also used the occasion to demonstrate
its support for Thurgood Marshall Academy's college-preparatory
program by committing to a $20,000 scholarship to
support a graduate's four years of college education.
